Circuit Design
Azimuth offers comprehensive design and development services for custom circuit boards incorporating both integrated circuits and passive components. We support both through-hole and surface-mount technologies, including fine-pitch TSSOP (25 mil) and compact 0603 packages, as well as miniature surface-mount connectors and components.
Our team has extensive experience designing multi-layer PCBs with ultra-fine pitch (down to 20 mil spacing) components, incorporating inner power and ground planes to minimize electrical noise and maintain clean, stable power distribution across digital circuits.
Past designs have included:
Redundant Power Supplies
Analog and Digital Design
Embedded Devices and Systems
Portable, battery-powered systems with integrated lithium-ion charging circuitry
WVU Personal Rapid Transit (PRT)
Azimuth was the prime contractor for the design, manufacture and delivery of the Vehicle Control and Communications Subsystem (VCCS). The VCCS is a component of the Morgantown Personal Rapid Transit System (PRT) for West Virginia University’s (WVU) autonomous transportation system. The PRT system is a fully automated transit system with five passenger stations, approximately 8.7 lane miles of guide way, and 71 passenger vehicles.
Azimuth worked with Boeing to redesign Boeing’s Phase II VCCS, which consisted of 21 circuit boards and reduced the board count to four highly sophisticated circuit boards.
The VCCS provides control command to the vehicle, identifies and transmits vehicle status to the Station Control and Communications Subsystem (SCCS), and receives commands from the SCCS. The system is designed for fail safe operation and incorporates series and parallel redundancy for all safety critical functions. The VCCS controls all vehicle functions while en route and at station berths including stopping, starting, acceleration, deceleration, steering, door functions, and fault monitoring/reporting.
