Tactical DNA Laboratories
When BAE Systems and the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) needed a partner to rapidly design and construct tactical DNA laboratory complexes for the Joint Expeditionary Forensics Facilities (JEFF) program, they turned to Azimuth.
Leveraging our experience with the Mobile Facilities Program (MFP), Azimuth refurbished fleet-return containers into fully functional, mission-ready lab environments.
Key upgrades included:
Modern Environmental Control Units (ECUs)
Durable flooring, epoxy-painted interiors, and custom-designed lab furniture
A specialized overpressure system engineered by Azimuth to maintain a clean environment that meets hospital-grade standards
Enhanced electrical systems to support sensitive lab equipment and backup power generation
Fully integrated networking, including support for instrumentation data feeds, NIPRNET, and SIPRNET connectivity
Azimuth’s end-to-end design, engineering, and integration ensured that these mobile labs delivered fixed-facility performance in forward-deployed settings.
Biometric Identification System for Access (BISA)
In the face of ongoing threats to U.S. military personnel, securing access to military facilities became a critical priority. Following the tragic 2004 suicide bombing of a U.S. dining facility, which claimed 22 lives, the Department of Defense took decisive action to strengthen base security.
As part of a team led by Computer Sciences Corporation, Azimuth was entrusted with the design and build of the core system for the Biometric Identification System for Access (BISA)—the first of its kind in the field.
BISA ensures that all foreign nationals seeking access to U.S. military installations are screened against U.S. government databases of known terrorists and suspected enemy combatants. Individuals who are cleared receive biometrically enabled ID cards, which must be presented and authenticated for every entry into a U.S. facility.
By integrating advanced biometric verification into everyday access control, BISA brought a new level of security and accountability to forward-deployed environments—protecting lives by preventing threats at the gate.
