High Definition Mission Data Recorder (HDMDR)
Updated 2026

Azimuth’s High Definition Mission Data Recorder (HDMDR) is a rugged, high-performance mission recording and computing platform engineered for the extreme operational environments of military and commercial sea, land, and air systems. Rigorously tested for mobile and high-shock applications, the HDMDR delivers reliable, high-quality mission video capture, metadata logging, and advanced processing in a flexible, integration-ready architecture.

Built around an NVIDIA® Jetson AGX Orin™ computing core, the HDMDR provides powerful embedded processing capable of supporting advanced video analytics, computer vision, and AI-enabled mission capabilities while maintaining high-resolution recording performance. The system operates as either a standalone recorder or as part of a larger command-and-control or mission management system.

At its core, the HDMDR integrates a multi-channel digital video recorder with synchronized platform metadata capture, creating an all-in-one solution for mission-critical data collection. The system supports simultaneous recording of four HD-SDI video sources and four analog SD video sources, along with still image capture and comprehensive mission data logging.

An integrated video matrix provides flexible signal routing, enabling up to four NTSC video inputs to be routed to any of four NTSC video outputs for monitoring, distribution, or operator display. The architecture supports both real-time operational use and post-mission analysis requirements.

The HDMDR is built on a sealed, MIL-STD-810H qualified rugged computing core designed for harsh environmental conditions. Integrated Ethernet and CAN interfaces enable seamless metadata acquisition from navigation systems, IP cameras, environmental sensors, engine monitoring systems, and external trigger sources. Network-attached storage (NAS) support provides efficient storage and management of high-volume mission data.

Purpose-built for mobile platforms where ruggedness, remote control, accessibility, and ease of integration are critical, the HDMDR provides a non-developmental, open-interface solution. The system can be deployed as a fully integrated subsystem or as a turnkey standalone device requiring minimal installation effort.

Engineered and manufactured entirely in the USA, the HDMDR features fully specified mechanical, electrical, and data interfaces delivered without licensing fees or royalties. Azimuth also provides system customization, design assistance, and platform integration support to meet specific mission requirements.
